Always make sure that the urinary catheter and drainage bag tubing are connected firmly
Periodic inspection of the drainage system should be made to ensure urine is flowing freely
Drainage bag should be placed near the foot of the bed and below the level of the patient's hip.
Excess tubing should be arranged in such a way that it permits straight line (easy) flow of urine and does not allow the tubing to kink or fall below the level of drainage bag
When transporting the patient, do not place the bag on patient's abdomen or between his/her legs.
